Peer Support Specialists for Individuals Living in Institutional Settings:
Peer Support is when people with similar experiences help one another in a respectful way. Our Peer Support Project connects self-advocates with intellectual disabilities living in the community to their peers living in the Austin and San Antonio State Supported Living Centers. Next Chapter Book Clubs
Texas Advocates is starting inclusive book clubs across Texas using the Next Chapter Book Club model. People of all reading levels are welcome to join. Contact Deborah Wallace for inquiries about this program.
People Planning Together Trainings
Brooke Hohfeld and Annessa Lewis are a certified co-training team in the People Planning Together Training. This exciting training brings together individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to learn how to develop a Person-Centered Plan based on how the person chooses to live their life. Self-Advocacy Conference
Save the Date for our 2020 Self-Advocacy Conference in Houston, TX from July 31, 2020 – August 2, 2020. Our annual conference is packed with educational workshops for adults with intellectual disabilities focused on: self-advocacy, rights, voting, alternatives to guardianship, healthy relationships, self-determination, peer support, employment, finances, and so many more relevant topics. Our annual conference also includes great social events such as Fun Night and the Awards Banquet & Dance.
